Voluntary Triple Bypass

At some point over the weekend we were out in Denver, the newly betrothed brother told me about this ride called the Triple Bypass. The stats for the 2007 ride are unreal, and I am So Totally Committed to this…

Over 120 miles and more than 10,000 feet of elevation gain over three major mountain passes make this an event only for the fittest cyclists.

The 2008 details will be released sometime in January, so I’m not sure what the route will be. The S.O.’s brother recommended I come up 4 or 5 days ahead of time to allow myself time to acclimate to the altitude. That sounds like a fabulous idea to me. I can get some altitude rides in before hand to get the body used to the thinner air, and have a week of both hard riding and relaxation. I figure if I start training now, I’ll be ready for the Triple Bypass in 10 months.

I’ll need to get some winter clothing for the higher altitudes. I’ll probably want new gearing (“(30/42/52 tooth) with either a 12-25 or 12-27 tooth cassette” according to the site). Replace my Campy Centaur shifters with Record, and get that Syntace aerobar I’ve been dreaming about. Don’t forget about frame bags, road kits and nutrition either. There’s a lot of prep to be done for something like this.

So far, I’m trying to get my brother and a good friend to join me… what an amazing accomplishment this would be.

I am completely and absolutely stoked for this!

  1. I know… it’s insane! But I can’t wait! I’ve been just too tired this week to get out and ride yet. I’m having a rough time recovering from the wedding this weekend, but I’ll get there. :)
