Morning Commute, or… Wind Whipped Hair

See, the thing is, I don’t mind wind. I’ve come around to look at headwind as a training exercise. However, it would be nice, just once… ok, a few times all in a row, to not have headwinds both to and from work on the same day. I used to laugh about that. It was a joke along the same lines as “Oh yeah? I walked to school through 3 feet of snow on nubs because my feet had frozen off the day before, and I carried a notebook without any binding because that was the only thing I had to fight the bears and alligators with! Uphill! Both ways! With one arm!”

It was that kind of joke… headwinds both ways. Ha! It was funny because it couldn’t happen, right? Now it’s funny because it’s true. It’s not so fictitious or fantastic as you might believe. I’ve faced it daily for weeks now. Rare is the day I have a tailwind. I never used to pay attention to it, and why would I? Safe in my bubble (or cage, if you’re of that mind) of metal, glass and plastic, the squirrels under my hood took care of the wind for me. Not so much anymore. My own squirrels have to deal with it, and they’ve started squealing about it. Apparently, they don’t have much patience for jokes.

Just a few days respite, please? Just a few?

Ok… enough of me whining.

Headwinds rock.

I’m kinda excited b/c I’m dropping by my hair cut joint on my way home to… well, get my hair cut. I’ve been going to see Stella for about three years now, going on four. I could probably go a lot cheaper, but I like what she does, and we have a rapport. She’s trained me pretty well so I don’t make it too difficult on her when I do make my way in, and it’s been a while. Things are getting a little shaggy up top. To those of you who have known me for a long time, my dislike of shaggy hair might come as a surprise, but it’s either all or nothing here. I want it either down to my cheeks (and not the ones on my face), or short enough to air dry in 2.3 seconds. That’ll be what I’m going for today… when I’m done fighting the wind all the way there.
