Happy Labor Day Weekend, All!

Posted On Friday, August 31st, 2007 By David Veatch

As labor day approaches, we see the coming of the last day to swim in public swimming pools, the first day of the Renaissance Fairre (Huzzah!), and finally (one can hope) some decent weather here in the Midwest (read: not 100+ degrees with 90+% humidity).

Buh Bye, CareerBuilder

Posted On Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 By David Veatch

After about the 50th spam I’ve received either referencing careerbuilder.com, or directly to the e’mail alias I’d set up for careerbuilder.com, I’ve decided not only to delist my resume with them, but to delete my account entirely (insofar as I can). I got this gem today: Hope you have a good day. You disturbed by the company ” E-exchange Finland ” We are looking for the work US resident and living in the USA. We can give you earnings from 2k $ in a month and more, the part-time work. If you have interest in our offer, contact us by e-mail: xxxxxx@xxxxxx.xxx Our agent reply to you in short time and will give you all details concern our offer. With the best regards ” E-exchange Finland “. Now, I don’t know if they’re just spamming me and assuming I have a careerbuilder account, if my contact information was sold (no, I didn’t read the privacy agreement, and yes, I did check the “please don’t send me sponsor e’mails” box), or if careerbuilder is somehow a victim of another jobsite comrpomise. It doesn’t matter. I tire of the spam from scammers and employers who can’t be bothered to communicate properly (or more ยป

At some point over the weekend we were out in Denver, the newly betrothed brother told me about this ride called the Triple Bypass. The stats for the 2007 ride are unreal, and I am So Totally Committed to this…

Mile High Wedding

I’m extremely tired. The S.O. and I went to her brother’s wedding in Denver, CO over the weekend, and had a really good time. I met a lot of her family I’ve not met before, and saw many I’ve already met. They’re a great bunch of people, and (in spite of valiant efforts to the contrary) seem to like me as well. Now, between three late nights, the normal stress and tension of weddings, and a very late flight back on Sunday, I’m just about spent.

Gimme Back My Identity, Yo

Posted On Friday, August 10th, 2007 By David Veatch

A few years ago, my identity was dopplegangered and used to purchase almost $10,000 worth of goods, none of which I ever saw personally. Unfortunately, this happened twice, once with each of two separate credit cards. Since then, I’ve made a conscious effort to protect myself…

Banning Bicycles…

In response to the tragic death of a grandfather and his granddaughter at the hands of a pickup truck driver, Tony says Grandpa would still be alive if he was guzzling gas safely in an SUV. Naturally, I couldn’t let that well enough alone…

Skirting the Edge

Posted On Wednesday, August 8th, 2007 By David Veatch

I got it! I now, finally, have a Garmin Edge 305 with Heart Rate and Cadence Monitors! So far, all I’ve done is get the hardware mounted on the Torelli, and set up the device (user profile, bike profile, display settings, etc.). Weather permitting (it’s raining right now), I’m taking it out tonight for a brief run around the airport. I did about 18 the last time I was out, I’m going to go for about the same, maybe an extra lap, tonight. I honestly cannot wait to get try this out. Look for a more complete review over the next few days…
