Tournament: House 9-ball at Terry’s

This was my first Terry’s tournament in a long time. It was cool to see some of the same people there. Unfortunately, my first draw was one of those same people, in the form of J.R. Wiley. Not even 20, he’s one of the best players in the region. In a race 8-4, he beat me 8-2. I wasn’t surprised…

The next match was against Larissa. I went to Topeka with Matt and Larissa, so it was a little odd playing her. We were both in the losers bracket, so one of us was going to spend the rest of the night waiting. It turned out to be her, after I beat her 6-0. My last rack was a 9-ball snap, with 3 additional balls, and the cue ball sticking to center table. Just about as perfect a break as I’ve ever done.

My third match was against a guy I’d seen a lot, but never played. Mike Lanney, or Canney, or something like that. He was good, but for an Ace he missed a lot of seemingly easy shots. Methinks he was having an off night.

My last match was against Terri, a Jack. It was a close match from the start. I missed four or five shots I really should have made, and scratched twice in the side pocket thanks to some really weird slow table roll… ah well. I lost, as much as she won, and given that the last two times I’ve gone to Topeka I went 0 and 2, I’m quite pleased with the results. I’ll definitely be back next week.
