Joe, one of the founding members of Maid in the Myddle found my site vie searching for "Maid in the Myddle" on Google. He’s putting up his own site (http://www.cmemusic.com/), and just wanted to see what else was out there.
We’ve written a couple times, and aside from having my thoughts echoed and substantiated, he mentioned that almost all the MiM music is digitized. I could finally have CD’s of their music, rather than my old and decaying cassette tapes, for which I don’t even have a decent player anymore! I’m just waiting on prices now.
It was interesting to hear from someone with far more experience with Renaissance faires say basically the same thing I did about the State of the Faire. He reminded me that the KCRF was once a benefit for the KC Art Institute. They got out, I’m guessing around 1995-1996, at about the same time MiM called it quits. From there, the KCRF became more about making money than making a good show. The current management wants acts that either draw large crowds, or will play for dirt cheap. It’s sad, really, and it’s apparently happening to faires across the country. I know my memory has clouded things (remembering the good things, filtering out the bad), but I definitely remember it as more of a live action role playing sort of experience, and less of a mall.
